TEAM 5129

The Digital Devils

2014 Season

Lessons Learned:

As a rookie team our overall experience was much greater than any of us could have imagined. We were one of the fortunate teams to be able to win many awards as a first year team.  When we first received our kit of parts and then learned about the Aerial Assist challenge we took a different approach to the game.  Instead of scoring points on offense, our robot was designed mainly to play defensive and assist other teams.  This made our team unique in the fact that we were able to block points and pass the ball very efficiently.

The build consumed a lot of time.  Our advice would be to take vantage of every minute of the build season.  There are plenty of obstacles and challenges that we ran into that ended up taking a lot more time then anticipated.  Also, create a schedule with goals and timeframes to keep the team organized and on task.

Because of our team dedication and talents we were chosen to be an alliance in the finals and were able to take first place in the Hartford district event.  None of us ever thought we would make it as far as we did our first year.  Not only were our team members and sponsors helpful, but other teams were so happy and supportive to us as well.  Whenever another team is in need of advice, assistance or parts the entire robotics community pulls together to help one another.   Even though we may be on separate teams competing against one another, we all help out other teams to succeed as well.

Overall the experience was like a huge sporting event.  The amount of time, people, and excitement was so impressive.  As team, we are already preparing and looking forward to next year’s competition!
